The other day I ventured out to The Highlands looking to do two things. First, to showcase my favorite neighborhood in Denver and second, to capture all the photos on my iPhone. You don’t need a thousands of dollars worth of camera equipment to do a photoshoot or to be creative. Technology has made the camera on the iPhone with higher resolution and quality than a digital camera I bought 10 years ago. ”
My day in “The Highlands,” an historic district of Denver, Colorado that has become “the place,” to either get your favorite martini, have a nice brunch, or strike a conversation with a stranger. The Highlands neighborhood has gone from shady to chic with the redevelopments within the past decade. It is now a charming district on the rise. In the Highlands you will not be able to find a Starbucks if your life depended on it, however you will have the best cup of coffee at either Shangri-La or Common Grounds. A place where they have turned the “Olinger” mortuary, to “Linger,” a lively resurant where you can get some amazing global street food. Urban and hip, it’s a trendy neighborhood where you can open a bookcase and a bar from the 1920′s magically appears. Your definition of a happy meal will need to be changed as here, a happy meal means a slice of pizza, a PBR and a shot of alcohol at Pasquini’s Pizzeria. At Bang! – the front of the restaurant is the kitchen that you can look at while passing by. Last but definitely not least, the long lines at Little Man Ice Cream can assure patrons of one of best ice cream experiences in Denver.
Whether its the historic Highlands Square in the West Highlands, or the younger LoHi district where cranes litter the area, you can be sure your savory senses, your favorite drinks, and your inner socialite hipster can thrive.
